Technology initiatives announced by SkyTeam could signal a new era for airline alliances as they strive to maintain their relevance in an ever-evolving market. SkyTeam, the global airline alliance co-founded by Delta Air Lines, says it has reached a milestone in the development of technology designed to deliver seamless travel for customers.

This new technology, known as “SkyLink Digital Spine,” is now being used to enhance SkyTeam’s offerings with new functionalities intended to gradually facilitate the exchange of information (such as seat maps) between the alliance’s 20 members. It will also allow member airlines to cross-sell ancillary products.

Over time, more members will use the platform on interline itineraries to locate baggage, provide seamless check-ins, supply all boarding passes, and show real-time availability of seats.

Another highlighted tech feature SkyTeam has announced is its digital airport maps. These maps are designed to help customers find their away around SkyTeam’s global hubs, reducing stress and making the connection process smoother.

These developments are in direct response to customer feedback and airline member input. SkyTeam has stated that the application of The Digital Spine will be significantly expanded over the next three years with more features to be announced soon.
