American’s New Aircraft Won’t Have Seatback Screens

Don’t forget to pack that laptop or tablet on your next flight! American Airlines has recently announced that their 100 new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft will not include video screens on the back of the seats. Travelers wanting to binge-watch their favorite Netflix show are going to have to bring their viewing screen with them. Passengers will still have access to American’s complimentary inflight entertainment, through Wi-Fi, on their personal devices. Last year, American joined Delta and United by offering free in-flight entertainment, and the airline currently offers 165 movies, 300 television shows, and hundreds of music albums to passengers. American will receive its first four Boeing 737 MAX aircraft this year and another 16 next year. American will use the aircraft on domestic routes. The airline will continue to offer seatback screens on international routes, which will use new, widebody aircraft, and its three-class Airbus A321s for transcontinental flights.
