Space X and Tesla founder Elon Musk has recently unveiled a new travel endeavor called the “Hyperloop Project,” a futuristic transportation plan that would shuttle underground pods between major US cities at approximately 700 mph. Although the technology to make this a reality is readily apparent, arduous litigation and government sanctions have served to slow the progress of the Hyperloop Project down; however, Mr. Musk recently tweeted: “Just received verbal govt approval for The Boring Company to build an underground NY-Phil-Balt-DC Hyperloop. NY-DC in 29 mins.”

If successful, the multi-billion-dollar transportation system would involve the usage of magnetic levitation (similar to technologies currently used in Japan) in a vacuum environment to connect train hubs within minutes. Elon Musk added to his original tweet: “Still a lot of work needed to receive formal approval, but am optimistic that will occur rapidly.” Just the possibility of traveling from DC to NY in minutes has great implications of economic growth in an ever-connected country and represents an upgrade in travel that is universally welcomed.
