If you’re cruising from San Francisco, don’t hesitate to extend a few days to explore this iconic American city. We’ve listed a few favorites to keep you busy and entertained in the City by the Bay.

Bike the Golden Gate Bridge (and sail under it, too!)
Did you know the official name of the Golden Gate Bridge color is international orange? This vibrant color was chosen to complement the bridge’s natural surroundings as well as for its easy visibility in dense fog. Don’t simply snap a photo though. Walk or bike across the bridge to get the full experience of this awe-inspiring engineering marvel. Private sailboat charters are available if you’d like a water view of the Golden Gate too.

Visit Alcatraz
Yes, it’s worth a visit. Admire the beauty of the San Francisco Bay on your cruise to Alcatraz island, and then learn about some of the most notorious criminals housed at Alcatraz during the audio tour. Plan ahead, especially in summer, as tickets do sell out.

Muir Woods
Nature lovers should include a visit to Muir Woods if time allows. This quick day trip from the city takes you to the land of the giant redwood trees. Admire these ancient beauties that are some of the oldest and largest redwood trees on earth. As you meander the paths of Muir Woods National Monument, learn about the history, animals found in the park, and the habitat restoration.

Important Tip: Muir Woods is quite popular and gets crowded; advance planning is required.

Take a Food Journey
It’s difficult to talk about San Francisco without mentioning food. The endless options will please even the most discerning palates. You will delight in the clam chowder served in sourdough bread bowls, pork buns from Chinatown bakeries, pizza slices in North Beach, and carnitas in the Mission District. This is only a small sampling of eating options in San Francisco. And if you’re near the Embarcadero on a Saturday, make time to meander through the Ferry Plaza Farmer’s Market. If you see a line, go stand in it because whatever’s being served will be delicious.
