Hawaii Goes Solar at HNL Airport

Hawaii’s Department of Transportation is looking to turn the state’s ever-present sunshine into pure energy at Honolulu’s Daniel K. Inouye International Airport (HNL). Using 4,260 solar modules, to be installed by mid-November, the state agency hopes to cut the airport’s electricity bill in half.

The solar panels, which will be housed on the seventh floor of Terminal 1’s parking garage, will create energy to be used at the airport and contribute to the state’s goal to generate 100 percent clean energy by 2045.
