More Airlines Begin Weighing Carry-Ons

The overhead bin wars continue into 2019 with Qantas’ stricter enforcement of carry-on bags. For domestic flights, Qantas passengers should expect to see not only “baggage sizer” bins but also luggage scales at gates across Australian airports.

For Australian domestic flights, each piece of carry-on luggage will be required to weigh less than 15.4 pounds (just under seven kilograms). Qantas has already started the stricter enforcement on its busiest routes, including flights from Sydney to Melbourne. Virgin Australia has adopted stricter enforcement as well. If other airlines follow suit, this might be the end of the overstuffed wheelie bag.
