Apple Picking

Fall, also known as apple picking season, is the best time to visit an orchard. Starting in September, rows and rows of apple-filled trees take over farms and orchards. People of all ages search for the perfect apple as they enjoy the crisp fall air.  Take a trip to Sky Top Orchard near the Great Smoky Mountain National Park in North Carolina, for fresh apples, breathtaking views and of course, a hayride.

Rock Climbing

If you want a thrilling fall activity, grab your sneakers and head to a mountain for some rock climbing.  During the fall, temperatures are ideal for rock climbing. With a picturesque view of the changing leaves, try climbing the intense Silver Mountain in Baraga, Michigan for the perfect fall adrenaline rush.

Bonfire

Bonfires are the perfect way to stay warm on a brisk autumn night. Backyards are always a cozy place to sit around the fire pit, but a great way to get a taste of summer during the fall is to start a bonfire on a beach (one that allows them, of course).  Cannon Beach in Oregon is a great place to feel the toasty fire while the waves crash and the salty ocean combines with the sweet smell of s’mores.

Camping

Head over to Grand Tetons National Park in Wyoming for a serene fall camping trip.  Most people camp in the summer, even though it is more crowded and there are more bugs.  The best way to ditch both is to camp during the fall.  You’ll get to experience the refreshing air and colorful leaves during the day, and the warmth of your blanket and a fire under the stars at night.

Pumpkin Picking

What would fall be without freshly carved jack-o-lanterns and homemade pumpkin pie? Pumpkin patches across the U.S. scream “fall” as they offer hayrides, cider donuts, corn mazes, and, of course, pumpkins to take home. You can use the pumpkins as a decoration or turn them into a delicious treat. If you are near Clarence, New York, stop by The Great Pumpkin Farm to enjoy an abundance of pumpkins, activities and treats for everyone.
